A nature reserve spreads out over Žákova hora Hill, holding a unique virgin fir-beech forest. Stříbrná studánka, one of the Svratka's headwaters, lies on the hill's southeastern slope. Former president Ludvík Svoboda named the area the Protected Landscape Area Žďárské vrchy in 1970.

A geodetic point lies at the hilltop used to measure elevations, the precise shape of Planet Earth and movements of its crust. A rare virgin fir-beech forest still stands on the hillsides, protected since 1933 as a national nature reserve. This 2.5 km long nature trail with ten stops runs along the reserve edge.
