V roce 1705 byl zvolen opatem cisterciánského kláštera ve Žďáře nad Sázavou Václav Vejmluva. Za jeho vedení v letech 1705-1738 zažíval žďárský klášter období největšího rozkvětu. Opat Vejmluva se poprvé setkal s Janem Blažejem Santinim-Aichelem (1677-1723) v roce 1706. Od této doby se datuje jejich intenzivní spolupráce, která trvala 17 let až do Santiniho smrti. Během těchto let vznikla více než desítka vynikajících staveb.
